Who We Are & What We Do

Tucked into the valley under Stockade Hill and surrounded by the beautiful local beaches, our family-run mill has been a part of Howick village for almost 30 years. We are proud to be 100% New Zealand owned and made and to promote the incredible fibres this country has to offer. Our products are all completely designed, knitted and manufactured on site and are crafted using only premium yarns producing luxury, quality garments.

We draw inspiration from the surrounding natural landscape. From the sparkling beaches and miles of coastline of the North, to the lush bush and forest of central New Zealand and to the expansive stations and vast spectacular mountain ranges of the South. Our way of life and love of the outdoors calls for warm and functional knitwear which we know will look good and which we are confident you will enjoy wearing.

Our second generation family-run mill proudly uses only advanced Stoll knitting machines and we have recently acquired two of the latest flat-bed knitting machines out of Germany. David is our head machine technician who loves nothing more than a new knit challenge or exploring the latest technology. He visits Germany as often as he can to keep up to date with the latest knitting developments. David and Shirley have been in business for almost 30 years and enjoy supporting a team who all take pride in their workmanship.

We also offer a full design and production service for knitted components of school and corporate uniforms.

If you would like to talk about the possibility of working together with us,
Please contact either Shirley or David.

Content labels

NZ Knit has commissioned Christchurch artist Angela “Lemurkat” Oliver to design our own content labels for the Merino/Possum/Silk and 100% Merino ranges. These labels which are reproduced on heavy card, are seperate to our Mountain Country swing tags and we hope people will keep them as little souvenirs of New Zealand. The labels shows the Merino sheep, Possum and the Silk Worm (in the flowers) as well as the mountains rivers and fauna of our magnificent country.
